Will birth control pills help my chances of getting pregnant?
Q: I am 28 years old and have been trying to conceive for eight months now. I have never used birth control pills in my life. It is a known fact that 80% of women get pregnant once they suddenly stop using their birth control pills.Should I take the pills from the time of my fore-coming period and suddenly stop using it on my ovulation day? Do you think this increases my chances of conceiving?
A: Birth control is supposed to stop ovulation while you are taking it, but when it is suddenly stopped, some women will ovulate immediately up to weeks later. For others, ovulation does not regulate or takes a while after stopping birth control. I was on it for 2-3 years (only because of irregular cycles), then went off of it about two weeks before getting married, in preparation for starting to try. That was a year and a half ago, and I am now taking my second round of Clomid.Just keep trying for another four months, then get you and your partner tested. The doctor probably won’t take you seriously if you try before then, unless you have problems which could hurt your chances, for example: irregular cycles/periods, lots of ovarian/uterine pain, or breast discharge.
