Weddings: Create the Perfect Bathroom Basket

A wedding is one of the most special days that a couple get to plan together. It is an opportunity to bring together family, friends and other loved ones to celebrate an important step in the lives of the couple. Creating a beautiful, unique and personalized wedding is both time consuming and exhausting, but it can also be a lot of fun! Furthermore, it is the perfect opportunity for the bride and groom to show off their personal style through carefully thought out customization and creativity.

Creating a “bathroom basket” for both the men and women’s restrooms can be an excellent opportunity to carry your wedding theme through to the most unlikely of places! These baskets, overflowing with products that may be needed over the course of the wedding day, are fun and also show guests that you are concerned with their well being and happy to have them share in your special day. With a little know-how, guests will go ga-ga over your trendy restroom additions. This guide offers just a few ideas as the possibilities are endless!

First of all, a bathroom “basket” doesn’t necessarily have to be contained in a typical basket-style container. If your wedding is beach-themed, consider using a plastic beach bucket! Fall theme? Consider a hollowed out pumpkin lined with something to protect the contents. Or, simply use containers purchased in craft stores that match the overall color scheme of the wedding. Again, use your imagination!

Next, it’s important that the theme and color scheme of the wedding be considered in every detail! Consider using color-coordinated signs with creative poems to inform guests that the products included in the bathroom are for their use over the course of the day and/or evening, otherwise people may be tentative about taking and using the products! Some people may not have been exposed to this sort of thing before, and the whole point is to ensure that people aren’t hesitant to use what you have put out for them. Don’t forget to add any extra little decorative touches you can think of–Decorative ribbon in a contrasting color or some type of filler at the bottom of the basket can be an easy and effective way to give more depth to a color scheme.

After you have decided how your baskets should look externally, it’s time to focus on the contents of your baskets! Again, the sky is the limit! A great place to shop is the travel section of your local pharmacy, while some other options include dollar stores, flea markets, and other discount stores. The key here is to include practical products that guests will be grateful for, without breaking the bank. After all, a wedding is expensive enough to begin with! Some possible products that could be included are:

Women: Tampons/sanitary napkins, Tums/stomach medicine, pain reliever pills, breath mints and/or gum, safety pins, stain remover stick, floss sticks, spray deodorant/antiperspirant, an affordable eyeshadow/lipgloss compact, Q-tips, makeup brushes, sample-size perfume bottles, a small sewing kit, bandages, etc!

Men: Tums/stomach medicine, pain reliever pills, breath mints and/or gum, floss sticks, safety pins, men’s body spray, spray on antiperspirant/deodorant, prophylactics, small bottles of cologne, bandages, etc!

Chances are, the women’s basket will be slightly fuller than the men’s, but this is to be expected! Women tend to spend more time “gussying up” in the restroom than men, and this is reflected in the amount of products required! There are many other options for products to include and you may come up with something brilliant and perfect that I haven’t even touched on here. Wander around in a number of different types of stores thinking about what YOU could potentially need over the course of a wedding reception.

It is essential that the baskets are well-presented and enhance the overall theme of your wedding. You don’t want to just stick a box of products in a bathroom, as it will look silly and guests will not know what to make of it. Lastly, make the baskets your own. Let them show off your own personal style as a couple! Make the process an activity that you and your future husband can enjoy together. It isn’t a super stressful activity but will definitely contribute to the overall appeal of your wedding!
