Wake Up Prettier

Oh, morning. It comes fast and furious in my household. And when I wake up, I don’t feel or look so pretty. All I want is a cup of coffee and a hot shower, but there are mouths to feed, little ones to dress, and chores to do. I wish that I could do my hair and makeup the night before, waking up already coiffed and pretty for my day. But the reality is I wake up more closely resembling Frankenstein than a supermodel. Since I don’t have a magic wand to make me beautiful in an instant, here are a few tricks that I’ve learned to help me wake up looking a little prettier.

Take off all makeup before bed. Leaving makeup on overnight causes a few unsightly issues. First is the shadow and eye liner that migrates away from my eyes and down towards my chin. It looks streaky and freaky and not at all nice. Second, leaving makeup on all night creates a great breeding ground for blemishes. It won’t happen all at once. First a pimple here, a blemish there, and before you know it, there’s a bacteria party on my face. It even makes my mirror wake up on the wrong side of the bed. And I won’t even mention the destruction that happens to my pillow case when I’ve forgotten to wash my face. To prevent all this, I make it a priority to wash my face and rinse away all traces of my day.

Moisturize. Our bodies use a lot of water while we’re sleeping, which is why we often wake up feeling parched and dry. A quality facial moisturizer will keep skin happy, as well as a great body lotion to prevent scratchy feet, ashy legs, and crackily knees.

Stay off your face. Sleeping on your face causes fluid to collect around your eyes and throughout your face. Sleep on your side or on an elevated pillow to promote drainage.

Treat. Zap zits. Banish blemishes. Collapse crows feet. Flatten fine lines. Find the right night time products to fix your skin woes, and you’ll be making sure that you’re truly getting your beauty sleep.

Drink water. Too much salt can make you wake up puffy and bloated. So control your salt intake, and drink plenty of water to flush your system. Just don’t do it too close to bedtime, or your beauty rest will be interrupted with potty breaks.

Treat your allergies. Allergies can cause unsightly bags and dark circles. See your doctor if you have seasonal allergies to get the best treatment for you. You’ll wake up looking and feeling better than when you went to sleep.

Sleep on a satin pillow. There is nothing attractive about waking up with sheet marks on your face. Sleep on a smooth satin pillow to keep your face from getting a few extra wrinkles in it. Bonus, it will help prevent your hair from getting messy, too.

Don’t go to bed with wet hair. Nothing causes bedhead like going to bed with wet hair. If you always shower at night, either save your shampoo for the morning minutes or dry and style your hair before bed. It will save you styling time in the morning because you’ll only have to touch it up, rather than wet it down and start from scratch.

Remember that the best way to wake up looking gorgeous is to take good care of yourself and get a great night’s sleep. Waking up rested and feeling good makes you look great!
