Twitter Connects Celebrities and Fans

Millions of users connect over Twitter to share their thoughts, market a business or to communicate with friends and families. Celebrities also use Twitter to reach out to their fans. Though some accounts are solely used for promotion, most celebrities have personal accounts where they communicate with fans, tweet personal photos and share their inner thoughts.

If you have a favorite celebrity who has touched your life, Twitter is one of the best ways to talk to this celebrity. Of course you can only send 140 characters at a time, but for a brief moment you can send a message to your favorite celebrity and may receive a reply in form of a direct message or @ reply.

Not every celebrity will respond, but here’s some tips to help grab your favorite celebrity’s attention.

Follow the correct account. Some people take joy out of pretending they are a celebrity, so you may run across fake Twitter accounts. Twitter creators know that this is always a potential problem, so there is a process to “verify” accounts. This means if you see a blue ribbon reading “verified account” next to it, this means it is the celebrity’s account. Scroll down the page to read what type of tweets the celebrity sends out. If they look like things such as “Check out my performance on SNL this week,” it’s likely to be solely set up for promotion. Personal thoughts and photos mean the celeb tweets for themselves and they may respond to fans.

Tweet only when you see the celebrity tweeting. Set an alert to send your favorite celebrity’s tweets to your phone. When you see these tweets come through, send your message to the celebrity. If you tweet when they are not tweeting, it will get lost among all the other tweets people send to the celebrity. Popular celebrities get thousands of tweets a day, it’s likely they do not scroll through old ones.

Stand out amongst the other followers. Don’t write a message such as “Retweet if you love your fans,” everyone sends tweets like these to celebrities. Instead, share a personal story or message with your favorite celebrity. Send a tweet after watching their latest film, TV show or even after attending a concert sharing what you thought of it. Be creative so your tweet stands out on their feed.
