Today Would Be the Day

She stopped at the mirror

with that look in her eyes,

today, would be

the day.

No matter what’s around her

she couldn’t go on,

today, would be

the day.

She didn’t want to say goodbye

didn’t want to see them cry,

today, would be

the day.

They’ll never know

what was in her mind,

her last fall

from grace.

As she disappeared to the shadows

and embraced her cold fate,

it was obvious to her

all…was too late.

She had no more reasons for living

her time was well done,

today, would be

the day.

And left, only sadness

within her demise,

only confusion and anger

as they asked themselves why.

But, she’d stopped at the mirror

with that look in her eyes,

far too many,

too many times.

In memory of Jules Mcgregor
