If you’re like us, you probably have always wanted to have Breakfast at Tiffany’s Audrey Hepburn style! Well, while we were in New York, we had planned on just that. We didn’t exactly get up early that morning, so we had lunch at Tiffany’s. A friend and I snuck off to Tiffany’s without the other person in our party, who happened to be celebrating a Birthday the next day, and decided we would check things out, buy something and have it presented to her while we had ‘breakfast.’ It seemed like a good plan at the time…

When we walked into Tiffany’s, we were surprised at how small it was. It wasn’t what we’d imagined. After looking around, through the large crowd of people who were mulling about, we realized that there was more than one floor. Ohhhhhh, duh. Well, we had never been there before, so don’t be too harsh on us! We skipped the Wedding floor and went straight up to more jewelry. There were really, really nice things in there (and, priced accordingly!) but we were looking for the ‘Breakfast’ experience. We were looking at necklaces and this employee walked up to ask if we wanted to look at anything. She was an older woman and kind of looked down her nose at us. We asked if we could buy something there and have them hold it for when we surprised the other person in our group. She said, “No. Why don’t you just buy it?” “Yes, I’m going to buy something. I just want to know if I can keep it here until we come back.” “No. I don’t understand why you wouldn’t just buy it and take it with you.” Okay, thanks, and we quickly darted to another section that had more items that were more in our price range anyway. Like, $10 in the movie inflated, would be about right! This little section had such cute necklaces. Then, we saw it – a beautiful necklace that almost seemed made for the Birthday girl. We asked the Man working there if we could buy it and hold it there until we came back. He didn’t seem confused by this at all and when we told him the other lady told us, ‘no,’ he shook his head and told us that it wasn’t us, it was her. After we paid, he wrapped up our beautiful little necklace, let us write a quick note and then took it to the back for safe keeping until we came back. He was so polite and seemed genuinely interested in what we were doing and thought it was so neat.

The next day, when we pretended we’d never been to Tiffany’s before with our Birthday girl, we walked around looking at different things. The Birthday girl said, ‘Well, this was fun,’ when an employee popped up and presented her with her new necklace. It wasn’t the kind Man who had sold us the necklace, which I was kind of sad about, but the young lady who presented the necklace to the Birthday girl was kind, also, so it worked out. The Birthday girl cried, she was so happy and surprised. It went great, even with a snag at first. The employees here, for the most part, are genuinely interested in finding a great item for you and are very eager to help. I was very pleased with this experience and encourage anyone wanting to go to Tiffany’s in New York for the first time, to definitely make sure that you do! (And, if you didn’t know there were other floors, make sure you check those out, too!)
