Repurposed Baby Food Jar Tea Light Candle Holder

Baby food jars are such a cute size and make ideal tea light holders. Use the jars individually on a table, self or window sill or make a hanging baby food jar candle holder.

Before you begin, decide whether to leave the baby jar clear or colored with a translucent glass paint. Glass paint is available at hobby and craft stores. The paint is sold in small containers like acrylic paint. Before you begin the painting process, wipe the outside of the jar with rubbing alcohol. This removes finger oil or tobacco smoke from the glass. Paint the surface of the jar with a coat of paint. Allow the paint to air dry. Place the container on a cookie sheet and bake at 250 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool over night. This hardens or cures the glass paint so it will not chip off. Place a tea light in the jar after the paint is cured. It is ready for use.

Make a hanger for the jar from two 24- or 36-inch long pull chains used for a light. Loop each pull chain and attach the connector to the end of the chain. Hang the two connected portion from a hook. Slide the pull chains apart and place the baby food jar tea light candle holder between the loops. This particular craft item works well on a patio or hanging in a window.

Create a colorful table centerpiece with 6 to 12 individual jars. Position the jars so they are in a circle, triangle, square or rectangle. Tie a ribbon around the entire shape to add a feminine appearance.

Use the same process to paint larger jars with glass paint. Put votives or tea lights in the larger jars. Mix and match the size of the jars in different areas of the house to create a sculpted candle light look.
