ADHD or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is common behavioral child condition which is characterized by the co-existence of hyperactivity and attention problems. However, there are ADHD children that have other illnesses or conditions that goes along with their ADHD.
Here are some those conditions that co-exist with ADHD:
1. There will be disability in their learning skills. For toddlers, they have struggles in expressing themselves. Also, they will have problems in comprehending or understanding certain words or sounds. For children that go to school, they find it hard to read, spell a word, to write, and solve math problems.
2. Conditions like having aggressive and disobedient behaviors toward adults and those in authority which goes beyond the limits of normal childhood behavior may also manifest. This is referred to as oppositional defiant disorder. Children who have this condition may appear very stubborn, angry, rebellious and disobeying rules.
3. They may posses certain behaviors that affect their conduct. These children or teenager may engage in using illegal drugs that may lead them to do harmful act such as destroying the property of others, breaking and stealing at homes, carrying deadly weapon such as a gun, and lying to others. They usually get in trouble at home, school, and even in their own community especially under higher authorities.
4. Their emotional state is greatly affected that they will experience anxiety and depression. Some of them may increase their emotional level. It’s possible to have this bipolar disorder wherein the emotion goes from extremely high down to lowest mood such as depression in short periods of time. However, there are medications that could help them manage the depression and anxiety caused by ADHD. Make sure to see a doctor if medication for ADHD is needed.
5. Rarely happens that an ADHD child is the tourette syndrome. It’s a brain disorder wherein those that have this may have repetitive mannerisms and nervous spasm. They blink their eyes and sniff frequently. Some have face twitches or grimace. Others speak out words inappropriately.
6. Children with ADHD may also undergo substance abuse, problems in sleeping, bed-wetting, and other disorders or illnesses. Recognizing ADHD symptoms and seeking help early will lead to better outcome for both affected children and their families.
