Nasal Aspirator – Which Type is Good for You and Your Baby?

You must have experienced a stuffed nose, either by allergic reaction or cold. What do you do then?

Maybe, it is just bit annoying to you as an adult but for infants, it is quite dangerous since they only know to breath with their noses. That is why you have to have a nasal aspirator at home if you have a baby. You really need one.

In short, there are 3 different types you can find in the market.

Bulb syringes.

This is traditional and common device you can find out there. You place the bulb in your palm and press the bulb either with your thumb or whole hand and then put the opening into the stuffed nose and release the hand or thumb. It will suck out snot as much as it got vacuumed. It is relatively less scary, you can say but it is not that effective. So you have to do it several times. Infant might feel annoyed or scared by several attempts though.

Battery powered nasal aspirators.

They are very simple to use. You just place the silicone tips into the nose and press the switch. Two things are not quite yet enough. One is that it is not that effective. They do not generate sufficient suction. The other thing is that infants tend to dislike the motor sound of the devices.

Self suctioning nasal aspirators.

As the name indicates, they have self suctioning ability. In most cases, they are made up of three different parts. A silicon tip, a long tub and a receptor are they. You simply place the silicone tip into your nose and take a deep breath through the tube, which draws up. This kind of device is very effective though some people get freight due to relatively quite strong suctioning.

There is a product called Nosefrida. This is a sort of self suctioning nasal aspirator. Though it is not exact same. Since you decide how much the device should suck out mucus, it is relatively less scary. It is designed by Swedish pediatricians. A simple design with a silicone tips, which you never put inside the nose. This way, babies would not get afraid. Also, parents would not get bacteria transferred from their kids either because it has a disposal filter which prevents that would happen.
