My Favorite Laptop

One of the reasons I purchased a Gateway m465 Laptop was because I was having trouble with my HP Pavilion 735n Desktop computer. By the fall of 2007, this four and a half year old desktop started slowing down. Going on the Internet took up to 20 minutes rather than 30 seconds. Some of the web sites were unattainable, like the one I used to pay my electric bill.

The Gateway m465 Laptop was a refurbished item purchased from an auction site, but I liked it because of its ease of use. Most of my programs on the elder computer were compatible with it too, except Boggle and Scrabble, which needed Windows 95 or 98 to run. That function does not exist on the junior computer. It also did not come with a mouse, like the one on the elder computer. My sister purchased that separately as a gift Christmas 2007. I had to get used to running my finger across a pad. It made things difficult when playing arcade games on Facebook and Pogo.com.

Once I became Wi-Fi compatible with the Wireless-G Broadband Router with speed booster, able to use my laptop anywhere in the house as well as on the back porch, I felt a new sense of freedom. As my family became wireless, making it easier to visit my mother, sister, and brother, I could take my laptop and use it at their homes. I could also go to any designated hot spot, like Books-A-Million, Hastings and any other Internet cafe or library to use my laptop because they were Wi-Fi compatible.

This computer does have drawbacks to it other than the use of software and no mouse. The notebook computers coming out after this type are a lot faster and lighter than what I have. Most of the newer lighter laptops have a longer battery life of eight hours. Mine has only four hours. I’ll have to remove Internet Explorer 8 from my laptop because it butts heads with Google Chrome, not allowing me to finish checking mail or harvesting farms on Facebook. If my brother didn’t secure my wireless Internet feature, someone would have hacked into it, driving my cost upward. The Gateway m465 Laptop is a keeper until I can afford something lighter and faster.
