It’s on like Donky Kong Down Under

The top players in tennis are putting on clinical displays at the Australian Open this year. If you are a sports fan these semi-final matches are a must see. In a sport that players go head to head in battle not only get their opponent but against themselves. Where twists and turns happen by the second. Greatness is presented on the big stage and can be appreciated by all. We have a situation rarely seen in sports where you have the top 4 players in the world winning outright to compete to seeing who really is the best in the world at the moment.

Novak Djokovic shows in each match why he is ranked number 1 overall and looks to continue his hot streak from last year only losing one set so far. Rafael Nadal has lost only one set also but had a questionable call on his tie breaker. Roger Federer has been slightly more impression not losing a set yet but had a walkover in the second round. Andy Murray lost his opening set and hasn’t looked back since winning outright. All four players are making shots that some player only dream that they could make once some day. Whether it would be a drop shot for a return serve like Federer or a forehand cross court at a un defendable angle, you can only appreciate the flawless in the beauty in their game at times. I promise there will be a handful of times while watching these matches you will say, “How did he make that shot?”

While on the women’s side Kim Clijsters replaced Caroline Wozniacki, and the other top four ladies are represented. Besides Kim, whoever finishes the best at the end of this tournament will be crowned the number 1 overall player on the women’s side. Petra Kvitova is looking strong only dropping one set in the second round. Victoria Azarenka had only one little hick up in her opening set in the quarterfinals but other than that has been dominate. Maria Sharapova is looking like her old self having her only scare in the fourth round. Just like on the men’s side it will be an interesting semi-finals and the stage is set from some entertaining and competitive tennis.

There will be many c’mon calls, grunts, and a lot of fist clinching, and pumping. Take your nap during the day and grab your favorite snack because you are in for a treat. If you don’t have the will to stay up late and watch the semis, I suggest you DVR or TIVO the game. Or you can watch the replay in the morning but risk the fear of knowing the result and not living the excitement swing by swing.
