I recently had the pleasure to get a hotel upgrade that included a dressing room. I have obsessed about it ever since. After all, what woman wouldn’t want a relaxing place to prepare for the day? Here are some tips for creating a dressing room from a small unused bedroom in your home.
Once you identify the room you want for your dressing room, you will want to make it so girly, that no man will enter. Consider wallpaper or faux painting. The room should be a nice pink or peach color as that goes well with most skin tones.
Install an L-shaped counter in a corner with modular drawer units underneath to store all of your makeup. Also install full wall mirrors above the counter. On the opposite side of the room, install a mirror so you can see yourself from all sides. On the counter, store short crystal vases for your makeup brushes and similar items. Also add a table top magnifying mirror for close up work.
For seating, choose a upholstered bench or low back chair that won’t get in the way when you are styling your hair. Use a fabric that can be wiped down in case you spill any makeup or loose powder.
As you may also want to store some clothing in your dressing room, purchase modular stacking closet units. You can find shelves, drawers, and assorted cubes that can be arranged in any variety of ways to fit the space in the room.
As the room will likely have a closet, be sure to make use of that storing coats, jackets, and special occasion items. Unless the closet is huge and can hold all of your clothes, you will also want a rolling clothing rack or two to hang your clothes without crowding them. Hang white curtains on the front of the clothing racks to eliminate any visual clutter of different colored clothes.
Whatever you don’t overcrowd the room with items. The more open space you have, the more peaceful and beautiful the room will be.
