Holiday Season 2011 Festivities in Philadelphia

The Thanksgiving, Christmas, Chanukah, and Kwanzaa holidays are all just around the corner. With school back in session, stores have been displaying Halloween themed items, and before you know it, Chanukah and Christmas will be in full swing. Below find some wonderful activities to do during this busy season of the year in the greater Philadelphia area.

Philadelphia Thanksgiving Parade
Sponsored last year by Ikea, this is a traditional crowd pleaser. It will be on TV, 6ABC for locals, but if you intend on going to the parade, get there early to secure your spot. Local anchors and some national starts will be there supporting and watching the parade as well as plenty of floats, Santa Claus and local bands. Kelly Ripa from “Live with Regis and Kelly” usually makes an appearance with the local anchors during the broadcast.
Thursday November 24th at 8:15 am. Ben Franklin Blvd. and surrounding. This event is free and open to the public.

Thanksgiving Celebration at the National Constitution Center
This event is free with your museum admission. Join them for their Thanksgivng celebration where visitors will learn about the history of Thanksgiving, annula traditions, crafts for kids and an opportunity to send a letter to active military.
Located at Race Street between 5th and 6th
November 25th – 27th, 10am – 3pm.

Painted Bride Art Center: Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins
Great for kids. Goblins are trying to ruin Hanukkah for the villagers. What happens when Hershel shows up with pickles, a dreidel and his wits? You gotta go to find out!!! Starts December 21st and closes Decemeber 31st. Call 215-925-9914 for more info. Tickets: General $25, Youth $16. Group pricing available.

Christmas Village in Philadelphia
This is the fourth year for this grand place, and it is a great way to celebrate the holidays. With plenty of booths to shop, trees, spectacular lights and more, this venue will not disappoint. There is also food and drink.
The village is located at Dilworth Plaza in front of City Hall downtown from November 24th – December 24th.
Hours 11am – 7pm Sun – Thurs and 11am- 8pm Fri & Sat.

AAMP (African American Museum) Kwanzaa Celebration
Join the AAMP as they celebrate the holiday of Kwanzaa with family friendly acitvities The celebration is free with museum admission. Last year there was a film and arts and crafts to learn about the holiday.
December 21, 12 – 3pm.
