For Your Listening Pleasure

As much as I enjoy reading, I too derive pleasure from listening to audiobooks. When I am in my car running errands, it is the perfect way to enjoy a good novel without the need to have a literal book in my hands. I also listen to them in my home. When the narrator uses his/her vocal skills in a way that draws the reader in, their mission has been accomplished.

In order for me to enjoy these audiobooks or books-on-tape it is simply going to the website of my local library and reserving them at my own leisure. I don’t have to waste my time going in person and looking at shelves upon shelves at the large variety they carry. Once they are ready I receive an email notification and I pick them up.

Recently I have been made aware of another venue where you can listen to audiobooks for free. At www.LibriVox.org you can peruse their worldwide digital library containing more than 4,000 unabridged classics listed in the public domain. They record books that were published before 1923. And if you are interested in volunteering as an audio reader there are opportunities listed on the website that will give you further details in how to go about doing this.

All you need to listen to these audiobooks is one of the following: a computer, MP3 player, cell phone or a CD burner.

Living in the modern age of technology affords us with so many opportunities that would never have been possible without it. I for one am glad to know that there is yet another avenue where I can enjoy the pleasure of a good book without having to literally read it. By listening to it being read, I am carried away into places near and far. It is also a fun way to relax and be still.
