Floating Feet in Tennis Shoes Found in Canada and Washington

Over the past four years along the Canadian Pacific Northeast Shoreline, feet have been found in different areas. All the feet have had a tennis shoe still on them. One theory for the floating feet is due to the buoyancy of the shoes.

During these past four years, there have been 11 feet found along the coast line. Three of these bodyless feet have been found along the coast in the Washington State.

This leaves residents and police a bit mystified in both countries since only two people have been identified. This sounds like something seen in a horror movie or on an episode of “Bones.”

An episode of “Bones” in Season 6 did air on this subject. Last night on Fox 24 in Kansas, this episode, “The Feet on the Beach,” aired. On its original air date of April 7, 2011, 10.58 million U.S. viewers watched the show.

However, rather than the show taking place on the West coast, it took place along the river that separates Canada and the United States. Some feet had shoes, while others didn’t.

Rather than the feet washing ashore from the ocean with possibilities of these body parts being from accident victims at sea, the feet on “Bones” came from a body farm from the University of Hogansburg in New York. The floating feet along the shore line came from a flood due to heavy rains eight days before the feet were found.

In their story line, only one set of feet found were from a murder victim. The rest of the feet belonged to the bodies being studied at the body farm to see the different rates of decomposition of the bodies die to being placed in different scenarios. A forensic Canadian podiatrist had helped in discovering how the college student died.

The episode was slightly based on the news stories on the floating feet in Canada and the United States which leads us back to the original news story. While the forensics team in Vancouver have discovered two identities of their feet, these discoveries weren’t as confined and neatly placed as those on the show.
