‘Dancing with the Stars’ Results Show: Cirque Du Soleil Tribute to Michael Jackson, Nancy Grace Out of Semi Finals

Instead of another great encore dance from J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff who got two perfect scores Monday night on “Dancing with the Stars”, we were treated to a lavish dance number of “I Am Woman” by the female pro dancers and troupe members.” At least there was a lot of interesting guests on Tuesday night’s results show.

One of my favorites was the seasonal “Dancecenter” sketch hosted by DWTS alums Kenny Mayne and Jerry Rice, along with head judge, Len Goodman. Two very different musical artists, Andrea Bocelli and Flo Rida, performed separately. Cirque du Soleil’s newest show “Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour” performed MJ’s hits “Smooth Criminal” and “Billie Jean.” The Top 5 became the Top 4 at the end of the night.

Dancecenter

For the past several seasons this comedy skit analyzing the top five finalists has been lacking any semblance of humor whatsoever. However, this time around they got it right. I was laughing all the way through its snarky digs on some of the celebrities. Unfortunately the only one I did not like was the blatant innuendos on Ricki Lake and Derek Hough. That was outright tacky. When Kenny talked about J.R. getting all giddy about musical theatre showing clips of him mentioning Broadway Week was truly clever and funny. Of course Rob Kardashian talking endlessly about USC that was completely spot-on. The best one of all was harpooning Maksim Chmerkovskiy’s remark about it being his show. They did a spoof on the “Dancing with the Stars” ending credits with having only Maks’ name on it.

Andrea Bocelli

It’s about time they invited a true vocalist who sings beautifully. He was promoting his upcoming album, “Concerto, One Night in Central Park” and world tour. Trumpeter Chris Botti accompanied Bocelli who sang a jazzier rendition of the classic song “More.” Too bad Tom Bergeron did not get a chance to talk to him as they had to leave the stage immediately.

Flo Rida

The stage was then set up to look like a nightclub. This is why Andrea Bocelli had to leave so abruptly. Hip Hop artists wouldn’t be complete without ladies in hot pants. They rapped to a medley of their hits.

Macy’s Stars of Dance – Tribute to Michael Jackson

I’m not a big fan of Cirque du Soleil, because they are a bit too Avant-garde for my tastes. Needless to say I became a huge fan with their incredible acrobatics, dancing and costumes paying tribute to Michael Jackson. They performed two of MJ’s hit songs, “Smooth Criminal” and “Billie Jean.” My favorite was taking the memorable parts of the “Smooth Criminal” music video and incorporating it onto the dance floor. It was absolute genius.

Results

For the first results three couples were brought out: J.R and Karina, Rob and Cheryl and Hope and Maks. Only Rob and Cheryl were in jeopardy. Near the end of the show Ricki and Derek and Nancy and Tristan were left to find out their fates. Nancy and Tristan were also in jeopardy joining up with Rob. It was truly inevitable Nancy Grace was eliminated. I’m surprised she lasted this long. Now it is time for the semi-finals next week. “The Muppets” movie will guest star on next week’s results show.
