Okay, maybe you’re a woman who doesn’t really like to use heavy tools but, come on, you can drill two holes, can’t you? When you do, you can make gorgeous hangers for the wedding gown, the bridesmaids dresses, the mother of the bride’s dress, and others. Your special hangers will be keepsakes after the wedding but, for now, they’re just a classy way to hold your wedding garments.
Start with a wooden hanger and drill a hole at each end, on the bottom. The area between the two ends of the wooden hanger will be the area where you spell out a name or sentiment, with wire. With the holes in place on the hanger you can then begin to make the wire design you want.
Use pliable wire from a home improvement store – in your choice of many colors – to spell out what you want on the hanger. Lay a wooden coat hanger in front of you, and keep the wire word between the ends of it. Bend the wire this way, curve it that way, and spell out the name or word(s) you want. It can be helpful to use your print program to create a nice font. Print it out on a single line that’s no longer than the width of the hanger.
Place the printed word(s) on a table in front of you and tape it down. Now just twist and turn the wire to copy the letters, while keeping the wire on the pattern. When you’re finished making the word(s) you can then attach it to the hanger. Since nothing heavy will be hanging on the word wire itself, mere hot glue works fine to hold the wire in place. However, as you begin and end the word, it’s necessary to leave a bit of wire hanging off the first and last letter, and those wires should be pointing upwards. Fill each hole with the hot glue and slide the wire pieces in place.
Make the wire so that it spells out the couple’s names as one design. They make a nice gift for the newly married couple. Or, make the hangers so that each person in the wedding party has one to use for now, and can take it home as a keepsake. The wire word hangers are also great as an anniversary gift. Tie a satin bow around the metal hanger, right next to the wood, to finish the elegant look.
