Beyonce Pregnancy Reveal on 2011 VMAs Ousts Twitter Record of Osama Bin Laden Death

Beyonce’s pregnancy reveal on the 2011 VMAs Sunday night managed to oust the tweets per second (TPS) of news Osama bin Laden had been killed, Business Insider reports. Her baby bump nearly doubled the number of tweets users were posting versus that of the bin Laden death.

The huge announcement Beyonce made about her baby bump shattered a new Twitter record with 8,868 tweets per second (TPS). When news hit the airwaves and internet that Osama bin Laden was killed, it fetched only 5,106 TPS. The singer’s big reveal on the VMAs also beat the tweets for the Virginia earthquake, which reached 5,500 TPS.

Twitter is a good indicator of what the general public is most interested in. Not surprisingly, big name celebrities and entertainers are the ones followers pay the most attention to. Beating tweets per second over the death of Osama bin Laden wouldn’t be an easy thing to do, however. The terrorist leader was responsible for the tragedy of September 11, 2011, after all.
