When women are friends, and they’re all around the same age, there can often be a new baby born, in one family or another, back-to-back. It can go on and on as each family has one, two, three, or more kids. For that reason, lots of women are in attendance at each other’s baby showers. So, then, the pressure is on to find new ways to decorate, exciting foods to serve, and different games to play at each shower. When it comes to the shower you’re throwing for one of your friends you can do something much different than simply handing over party favors as the guests leave. In fact, when you make the party favors and hang them from a tree, you create a lovely centerpiece as well as a more interesting way to dole out the favors.
A white, tabletop Christmas tree is ideal for hanging the party favors but, if you don’t have one, you can just gather branches from outside. Wipe the branches off well with a cloth and paint them. It’s really easy to spray paint the branches white, pink, blue, or another color. When the paint is dry place the limbs in a sturdy vase. Instead of tree branches you can also use stiff flower stalks – with or without flowers on it.
Purchase baby booties in the color(s) you want. All the booties can be the same, for a unified look, or each bootie set can be different. Decide how you want to use the booties as party favors. One way is to purchase miniature bottles – available at craft stores – and fill them with candy. Place one bottle in each bootie. Another way is to simply fill small, cellophane bags with candy and place one in each bootie.
After the booties are filled hang them on the tree. Wire Christmas ornament hangers work well. Just hook the hanger on the back ankle area of the sock, and hang it on the tree. The bootie favors on the tree make a gorgeous centerpiece which is very appropriate for a baby shower. Guests can pluck a little bootie full of goodies as they leave the shower.
Yes, the bootie tree is a bit different than the average baby shower favor display, and your friends and guests will love it, but you’ve still got a problem. You’ll have to come up with something new and different at the next baby shower which is – more than likely – just around the corner.
