A Chance Encounter

My car was filthy and crying to me,
Please wash me and dry me quickly you see.
I listened and wondered how and when,
My car would get all dirty again.

I sighed and went to get my keys,
I’d heard of a place that is just what I need.
A place for detailing just up the road,
My car will look better and will really to glow.

I walked inside and saw a man,
Behind the counter with phone in hand.
He asked me my last name and then,
Asked me were I lived way back when.

I told him Philly – and where he asked,
Cheltenham I replied and then he gasped.
He said your father used to appear,
In Ocean City at the pier.

Your father used to sing, he said,
My jaw just dropped and I shook my head.
He lived around the corner from me,
We played ball and games, you see.

I recognized his brother’s name,
But this man remembered me all the same.
We stood and talked for quite a while,
I’ll go back to him – I like his style.

My car is clean and oh so bright,
Thank you, car, for leading me right
To the man who remembered me,
That is so neat for me to see.
