5K Breast Cancer Awareness Walk in Milford, Ohio

“Ms. Johnston, you have invasive ductal cell carcinoma.” Talk about a deer in the headlights moment… and I thought having a mammogram meant I wasn’t supposed to have breast cancer–

This was my mother’s reaction when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Do you really have a mammogram to find out you have cancer? The figure that blew me away was 60,000 of 141,000 diagnosed breast cancer patients die every year. No wonder fear strikes every fiber of your being as you are diagnosed.

The Susan G. Komen Foundation organizes 60 mile walks every year in various cities. The walk signifies strength, strength in the journey, the fight for a cure. This year a local team, Fight 4 the Girls, is going to Tampa to walk in the 60 mile 3Day in October. To raise money, they are sponsoring a 5K Breast Cancer Awareness Walk on October 1, 2011 in Milford, Ohio.

The 5K Breast Cancer Awareness Walk will be the first for Milford, Ohio. The cost is $15 per walker, $5 for children 10 and under. It starts at 9 am on October 1, 2011 at Riverside Park. Our speaker and survivor, Mary Mathewson, will kick off our walk with her story.

For those who cannot attend the walk, please visit our website and see how you can be involved and support Team Fight 4 the Girls.

Why? Because one in eight women in the United States will develop breast cancer in their lifetime…

Be the change you wish to see in the world. Gandhi
