50 Marathons in 50 States by Age 50: 50 50 50

After meeting World Record Holder, Laura Skladzinski at the Vermont City Marathon in Burlington, I was inspired with the fact that she did 50 marathons in 50 states by age 25. 4 years ago, I never thought I would be running in marathons, half marathons, 10k’s, 5k’s or around the corner, but in a couple of weeks I will be doing my 6 marathon in 5 States. 2008 New York City Marathon, 2009 New York City Marathon with Irene, 2010 Marine Corp Marathon (Virginia), 2011 Disney Marathon (Florida), 2011 Vermont City Marathon (Vermont), and soon to be 2011 Steamtown Marathon (Pennsylvania).

So now I just need 45 more states to complete this interesting goal. Partly since I want to make sure I maintain and loose more weight, I figure I should set something up that would make sure that I continue to exercise and run.

Since I want to Create a Healthier Community for My Children to Step Into, I running will help me reach that goal. I should continue to be a role model for my kids as well as my friends and family members.

Now I need to decide if my body can take five to six races per year until 2019, that’s a lot of mileage for these legs. Not sure if it’s a good idea. Since I am a late started to running, I guess my joints have not been used that much, especially since I sit around all day at my desk. My legs should be well rested.

I know I will be doing P90X2 this January, to cross train a little. LOL with P90X, I don’t think it will be a little! It helped with my recent races, and I think P90X2 will take my running to a whole new level.

I have 8 years to accomplish this goal. Do I really need to do it? I am not sure. 2011 has been interesting, I did 3 marathons with some good space in between to rest, but to do a race every 2 months, seems kind of extreme. And I want to throw in a couple NYC Marathons in the mix to support Team for Kids. However, I’ve been conditioning my body to do a weekend long run of 20 plus miles every other week. So should I try to get it over with as soon as possible by doing a race every 2 weeks, making the time frame be about a year and a half.

It’s funny how when you commit to something that all the puzzle pieces come together eventually. And it has to be total commitment! I know everything will fall into place once I just start doing it.

So am I being a little to extreme? If you have any thoughts about this, please contact me!
