Q: I haven’t been to the dentist in 2 years. When I left my house at 18 I no longer qualified to be on the insurance and have since not been able to afford it. My dentist had left my wisdom teeth in because he said my mouth was “big enough for them to fit”. I brush my teeth and floss but have extreme difficulty getting to the back teeth because my wisdom teeth are in the way. I’ve been getting major pain on both sides in the back of my mouth and know that I have to have at least one cavity. I just made a dentist appointment for next week to get them cleaned and get his opinion. I am pretty sure my wisdom teeth need to be taken out. How much would that cost, without dental insurance? What does an absess tooth feel like? Can really bad cavities cause you to feel tired, achy, and get frequent headaches? I used to love the dentist but now I’m scared that he’s going to yell at me for not saving up money and going to him more often.

best way to clean a cat who vomited on himself?

Q: My cat is severely sick, he’s been projectile vomiting since halloween and we took him to the vet, the vet said it was an absess so we gave him antibiotics.. he did well for a while, then he started projectile vomiting again, so the vet gave us another dose. his last dose was yesterday but he projectile vomited again so my sister took him to the vet (this time is was another vet) she said it was not the absess that is causing it because she did not see an absess just tartar and gingivitis (which is our fault for never getting his teeth cleaned unfortunately). She says the gums inflamed are not the cause of his vomiting and she said the inflamation can cause inflamation on his gastrointestinal tract.. ya ya ya.. anyway, we took him for blood work today and he vomited when we got home same type as always, pure liquid projectile vomiting.. he vomited all over himself and we tried washing him with a warm and wet paper towel but he still has it on him and he smells like puke.. anyone have any suggestions to help me clean him up? he’s 14 years old (15 in may) I know its going to be hard to hear some things I don’t want to hear but what do you guys think about this? whats the best way to clean up his vomit on his underbelly? this cat is my life and I’m going to be 22 in September so I’ve had him quite a long time and i can’t live with out him, unfortunately we must face death at some point. anyway.. any pointers, suggestions, comments, complaints? thanksoh yeah his blood work should be in on Monday.. pray for me pleasethanks.. and little is not the word to use him! hes a big guy! he was 26 pounds last year now hes 20 🙁 thats not a good sign 🙁

A: Aww…first, good job on seeing another vet. Don’t panic too much yet, because the cause of this may not be dire (some cats have vomiting issues, although usually less severe) and if he had been pretty healthy up until this point, it may not be as bad as you think. It could be anything from hyperthyroid (easily treated with pills), parasites, hairball problems (you can’t always see the hairball and sometimes it just sits in the tummy) etc. in addition to the much less common scary stuff like a brain tumor. If kitty had a skin infection, for example, the itching would cause him to groom himself and ingest more hair than normal. If you haven’t tried something like Science Diet anti-hairball remedy, please do this. It might solve the issue right there. With all this vomiting, he’s bound to be developing weakness just from the puking, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the underlying cause of the vomiting is that serious.On the cleaning, I honestly have no ideas. It’s very hard to do this other than a super wet towel and then a dry one. I’ve had to clean dripping food off cats when I syringe them, and I honestly never found a good solution.
