How can I relieve an abscessed tooth?
Q: What are some things I can do to relieve pain from an abscessed tooth? I’ve tried Orajel and that’s not working. I’ve also tried rinsing my mouth with hot salt water and using a hot compress.. it worked the first time but its not now. Any other ideas?I’m not sure which abscess it is, but its not the actual tooth that hurts, its my gum. The area right above the tooth. The tooth is bad because about a month ago a piece broke off. It didn’t hurt at all before that or after, until yesterday.
A: See a dentist ASAP. You probably need to be on antibiotics so that toxins don’t build up and go thru to the rest of your body. There are 2 types of “abscesses,” both hurt and swell almost the same way. A GUM abscess can be cleaned out, medicated, and heal up. Caused by food getting caught in the gum pocket or heavy root calculus.A TOOTH abscess means a root canal, or nerve removal, because the nerve is infected.See a DDS soon and good luck.
How long till tooth abscess pain is relieved?
Q: I was prescribed penicillin to clear up an infection from an abscess on one of my wisdom teeth. It still hurts like someone is jabbing me with a long metal poker in my jaw whenever I lay down. So now that I’m taking the pills how long till I can actually sleep without waking up on the verge of tears from the pain? They also gave me Tylenol 3 with codeine but that just makes me tired and woozy, still end up waking up after an hour. I already have to wait two more weeks till I can get this tooth pulled so I’m gonna need some sleep.
A: Antibiotics are only a temporary fix. I suffered from an abscess for six months before I made the decision to correct it forever (other other option was to die from blood poisoning). I had a huge dental phobia at the time, and lived on Amoxocillin.I can relate to the pain – it’s the worst I’ve ever been though! The pennicillin literally only took two days for the pain to subside, however they are usually only prescribed in two week runs. After that, the infection will return after a few days.Once you’ve finished your course of antibiotics, make sure you have the tooth extracted to ensure that the pulp and infected areas are totally cleared away. You’ll feel much better. Plus, after you’ve put up with the abscess pain, a tooth extraction or a root canal will feel like nothing at all.Good luck =D
