Q: I’ve been bleeding on and off for about 6 months. However I started having really bad pain in my abdominal area and lower back for the past few months, and I have had bad indigestion. Today I went back to the doctor( I have been before, but always bleeding to bad for her to do anything.) She was able to do a pap (first one in over 5 years; I know that’s stupid on my part), but I started bleeding pretty bad during the exam. She also said that during the exam that tissue was actually coming out by itself; she’s sending that to a pathologist. She seen something that she “THINKS” is a polyp, but she said she can’t be sure. So she set me up to see a specialist. When I’m not bleeding, I have a discharge that is kind of thick. I’ve not been sexually active in over four years and I don’t have a std. I’ve never had any kind of other female problems what so ever, nor do I have any children. I’m kind of scared because there is a lot of history of cancer in my family. My father has cancer, my grandmother died from cancer, and my first cousin has cancer…I just have a bad feeling that this isn’t polyp. If there’s anyone who knows anything about this kind of stuff please comment. I don’t see the specialist until June 23. She didn’t rule out the worst, but she told me that I shouldn’t think about it until I see the other dr…How can a person not think about it???? She said that my cervix didn’t look right that a normal one was kind of shaped like this ( )( ) that’s supposed to be a circle on the outside, but mine looked like this (*) the star is just to give you an idea of the drawing she showed me. The opening was blocked by something; she couldn’t see it. So if there’s anyone out there who can shed some light on stuff like this it would be appreciated.Thank you, sorry for the long message; I’m just really nervous.

A: I know that waiting to see specialists can be horrible and stressful, but there really isn’t any other option. If your GP isn’t prepared to hazard a guess as to what is wrong – and clearly, something is – then it would be foolish for anyone on here to do so. Until a proper examination is carried out and lab reports are back, any speculation might only add to your concerns. Be sure to let the specialist know of your family history and ask as many questions as you can. It’s helpful to write down things that you want to ask and to take a trusted friend along with you. That way you have someone to discuss things with. I do hope that things get sorted out soon.

A: I’m so sorry you are going through this! I myself have gone through very though medical times.You seem to think it is the worst thing in the world and most of the time, you are wrong! I will say this, going on the internet and looking up possibilities is NOT a good idea. You will scare yourself even more. If something if found from the sample sent to the pathologist, you will get a phone call and will see someone well before June 23. Please take it easy. I know you are scared!

As a typical middle aged uninsured citizen ; i worry constantly about dying of COLAN CANCER. What am i to do?

Q: Both my mother & brother had polyps removed from them; they had health insurance. I DONT. Can anyone recomend a low cost health insurance that would inclued COLONSCOPYS? I dont drink nor smoke, but i am a few pounds over weight. Thank You.
