Writing for Peanuts

This is my story about how I discovered how to actually get paid to write and submit articles online. I had heard about people making money by blogging and was curious how this worked. I had some ideas of my own for potential websites, but was completely clueless as to how to build a site and more importantly get paid for it. I simply Googled a phrase similar to this: “how to get paid for website.” You know how it is when you Google something, about a million search results are displayed. I started reading all kinds of information from various sites. Two things caught my attention, blogging and writing.

In February of 2010, I signed up for and joined a site called Associated Content. It has since been bought by Yahoo and is now called the Yahoo Contributor Network . Basically it is a network of tons of people who love to share information and get paid for it. You can submit articles, video or audio. There are various ways to get paid, whether it be by up-front payments or performance payments. Performance payments start at $1.50 per 1,000 page views, and that amount goes up as your clout level on the site goes up. If your content is good and you can successfully promote it, you can make some pretty good money via this network and site.

How have I done? Well, let’s just say that my earnings from this venture have basically amounted to peanuts! Not literally, of course, but I suppose if I wanted to I could buy peanuts with my PayPal debit card. PayPal is the means by which they pay for the content that they publish. Since February of 2010 I have had 25 articles published. My total page views for all 25 articles is currently 9,251. I have been paid a grand total of $12.29 so far! I realize that I haven’t exactly gotten rich, but that is OK. I’ve enjoyed the process and I am learning a lot by reading what others write.

The cool thing about this is that the income can be residual. As long as my content is still getting page views, Yahoo Contributor Network will keep sending funds to my PayPal account. For example, most of the content I have published on the site was written between February 2010 and July 2010. I became frustrated at my lack of page views and stopped writing for almost an entire year. To my surprise, funds were still being deposited into my PayPal account! One of my articles was doing really well and still is today. Of my 9,251 total page views, 6,948 views are for an article I wrote entitled, ” How to Kill a Raccoon Without Confronting It. ” This article alone still averages about 30 page views per day.

I recently decided to resume writing and submitting articles to the Yahoo Contributor Network. I know I probably won’t earn a huge sum of money from this hobby. But that is what it is mostly, a hobby, and I won’t complain about the small sums of money that are sent my way for doing something that I enjoy.
