Winter Decorating Tips for During and After the Holidays

Stress before and after the holidays can make fun tasks seem tedious. By combining some of your decorating efforts, you can kill two birds with one stone. Below are some winter decorating tips that you can use for the holidays, and keep up throughout Winter months.

1. Snowmen! There is no decoration more appropriate than snowmen. These are also decorations that can rollover from the holidays for a few extra months. Whether it’s a Welcome sign or mat that has snowmen on it, or statues on your coffee table; they make a great addition to any room, and can stay up until March.

2. White Lights: If you like having Christmas lights up but don’t want to feel like the lazy neighbor who doesn’t want to take them down, you can always put up white lights. White lights give a snowy affect to a yard or garden space and can easily stay up for a month or two after the holidays.

3. Snow: Snow decorations come in so many different forms. For windows, doors and mirrors you can place snowflake shape window clings along the edges for a quick and easy decoration. For end tables and coffee tables, there is artificial snow you can lay down under statues, picture frames, etc… I like to add a light layer of glitter to the top to give it a shiny affect.

4. Wreaths: When you pick out your annual Christmas wreath, consider buying one that is earthier versus Christmas oriented. A nice, simple wreath with pine cones and branches can easily transition through the rest of winter versus something that has too much tinsel, lights or glass bulbs.

5. Area Rugs: I have a few extra area rugs that I only bring out in the winter. They are simple black rugs with an inlay design; they look nice with my holiday decorations yet match my everyday décor. I place one by the front door and one by the back. Winter time is when friends and family are regulars at my house and by the time that first snow falls, I have dark spots on my carpet from wet boots. I learned quickly to have special winter area rugs that are dark enough to hide any dirty or wet spots, yet decorative enough to add something to the room.
