Many people at least a few times in life will experience what you call a water blister. They are painful water bubbles that can appear anywhere on a persons body but are found very commonly on the hands and feet. They form because the body detects damage to the outer layers of skin and it sends blood to the area to heal and cool the skin. The water forms a protective shield and pads the wound to prevent further harm.
Water blisters are easy to recognize, they look like a round pocket of water. They may occur as one single blister or a cluster of small blisters wherever the body appears to need healing. These clear pockets of water can occur in various shapes and sizes from small pimple sized blisters up to quarter-sized blisters.
The most common causes for water blisters are:
Sunburn Heat exposure Chicken pox Herpes Poison sumac Poison ivy Friction Electrical burns
There are some key things that a person can do to prevent water blisters from forming:
1. Drink Water – adequate water consumption will keep skin moist and hydrated.
2. Proper Fitting Shoes – this is the most common cause for blisters across the board. Shoes that are too big or too small cause friction when you walk.
3. Avoid being Sunburned – sunburns produce blisters, the best what to protect your skin is to prevent getting sunburns altogether by using proper sunscreen with SPF of 30 or higher.
4. Proper Socks – socks should fit your feet correctly. They should not be old, or too thin and made from breathable cotton materials.
Water blisters are easy to treat. You will need a clean cloth, alcohol, a clean sewing needle, antibiotic cream, and gauze. You will first need to clean your hands with soap and water, and the affected area also. You will then want to submerge your needle in the rubbing alcohol to sanitize it for use. Puncture the blister along the outer edge. Push the flow gently out of the area using the cloth. During this process be careful not to tear the remaining skin of the blister. Place some antibiotic cream that contains polymeric B on the area to prevent any infection and cover with gauze.
