Tonight Alive’s ‘What Are You so Scared Of?’ is a Pop/Punk Masterpiece

Tonight Alive’s new album “What Are You So Scared Of?” is a pop/punk masterpiece. The Australian group, fronted by Jenna McDougall, continues where bands like Paramore and Blink 182 left off. The difference, however, is in the vocals.

McDougall brings a pop singer’s touch to a punk band driven by power chords and heavy bass. Vocally, the energetic McDougall matches up with other pop stars like Lady Gaga and Katy Perry.

That’s not to say that the band behind her isn’t talented; rather Tonight Alive is comprised of a solid group of musicians that are all on the same page. Fans into bands like Blink 182 and Paramore will find solace with Tonight Alive. But what really stands out is the vocal range that the young Jenna McDougall delivers throughout the entire album.

Notable tracks are “Starlight,” “Let It Land” and “Thank You & Goodnight,” which features Blink’s Mark Hoppus. “What Are You So Scared Of?” is a fantastic album from a very talented band. The album drops on February 14, 2012.
