The Story of Shawn

At this point, it was quite obvious Shawn was struggling. Fighting off the zombies 10 floors down took quite a toll on him, and I’m fairly sure he had broken his leg. The sounds of the hungry hoard of the undead were getting closer, and with his broken leg, Shawn would never be able to keep up with Abbe and I.

“Keep moving Abbe, Shawn and I will catch up”. Abbe tearfully complied and continued to climb the stairs of the 40 story building, hoping to catch the rescue helicopter before it took off.

As I struggled to help Shawn, I could hear Abbe in the distance opening the door to the roof. “She made it” I exclaimed, turning to Shawn. It was then I realized the sobering truth of the situation we were in. I stopped in my tracks and, with a stoic face said “One of us is making it to the roof, and the other guy’s name is Shawn.”

That was the last time I would ever see him. Turns out he was the lucky one, as our quest to survive had only just begun.
