The Cowboy

He speaks with grit in his throat
but rarely speaks at all.
He keeps to himself most all of the time
’till his back’s against the wall.

He walks with a swagger, tall and proud
and never looks for any trouble
but if he tilts his head and looks under his brim,
his strength is about to double.

He’s as strong as an ox, cornbread fed
and not worried with making friends.
He’ll leave you alone if you do the same,
to fight him is like taming the wind.

If you see him out in the shadows of night,
you best leave that cowboy alone.
He don’t want to fight, but will if he must,
He’s just trying to find his way home.
