The Basic Gear for a One-day Deer Hunt

I’m sure that all avid hunters have a camouflage bag, at least half the size of themselves, filled with everything needed for any type of hunt. Ours is equipped with a hoist, a deer scale, a hand saw, bone scissors, a processing knife set, etc., along with our basic gear. Although these tools make things a lot easier, they aren’t necessarily required. If you plan to only hunt one day at a time, this basic gear list will provide you with the tools you need, without having to carry around every hunting gadget you own.

1. An orange safety vest.
2. A large, sharp knife.
3. Good, warm boots. Preferably waterproof.
4. Rain gear.
5. Deer attractant, if you choose to use it.
6. Rope.
7. Your weapon with extra ammunition, properly sighted in.
8. Deer license and harvest records. (Tags)
9. A cell phone, on vibrate.
10. Knowledge of the area you will be hunting.
11. A few bottles of water.

*Snacks should be put in your gear bag for emergency purposes, but the smell of “human” food during a hunt will probably result in running the deer away from your area.
