Costume jewelry isn’t all that expensive; some dollar-theme stores feature pieces for a buck, and other places have costume jewelry that’s a little pricier than that. But it’s not really about the money. When a woman sees a piece of jewelry she wants the price isn’t the first consideration; the look of the piece is. When you make a ring bracelet you create a fashionable style for even less than a buck. The bracelet itself is simplistic but pretty.
Just about any type of fabric will work well for making the band on the ring bracelet. Use a piece of velvet, corduroy, linen, cotton, or most any other cloth. Or, purchase a piece of crafting leather and make a more rustic version of the bracelet. You’ll need a very small piece of cloth or leather.
Craft stores sell brass rings in many sizes and shapes; check the smaller rings to find the one you want. The ring can be large or small but, if you lay the ring on the back of your wrist, it should not be larger than the wrist. You can easily find brass rings but they also have a selection of silver-colored rings, or other colors. You can even use a wooden, doughnut-shaped ring, or a plastic version.
If you’re using fabric, cut a piece to be long enough to go around your wrist, with a couple of inches to spare. Later, if need be, you can trim the piece to be a bit smaller. Cut the fabric to be as wide as the ring is. Any cloth will need to be hemmed; just turn the raw edges under, on all four sides, and hem. If you’re using leather, it can be hemmed, or it can be used with raw edges.
It doesn’t take very long to make the ring bracelet. Lay the ring in front of you on a table. Take one end of the fabric, feed it through the top of the ring, then bring the end on the underside of the fabric. Use hot glue or fabric glue to attach the end to the fabric.
Wrap the bracelet around your wrist and decide if any fabric should be trimmed from one end. If so, you’ll have to hem that end once again. Put that end through the ring on the opposite side of the first end of the band. Instead of gluing this piece, use the Velcro to secure it. Then, whenever you want to wear the bracelet, you’ll lay the ring on your wrist, bring the band under your wrist, then slide the end through the ring, and Velcro it.
The ring bracelet takes only minutes to make but you’ll wear it often. This bracelet can cost ten bucks or more at a store but you can make it for less than a dollar. It can be further embellished by gluing on rhinestones or other embellishments, around the leather or cloth band.
