Jesus Math

He was kind of annoying. He was always talking and had an opinion about everything. He often spoke without thinking.

He was a stickler for detail. He had to dot every “i” and cross every “t.” He was quite impulsive and would often get himself into deep water before he realized it.

One day he said to Jesus, “I have heard that if someone offends me I should forgive him up to seven times. What do you say?”

Now remember Jesus came to teach grace not math. But he replied, “not seven times but seventy-seven times.”

Peter was taken aback but he was determined to do what the Lord said. He had a person in mind who often rubbed him the wrong way.

So, he got a pen and paper and everytime the man offended him he would write it down and say that he had forgiven him. That’s one. That’s two. That’s three, and on and on it went. Soon the page was almost full.

Finally, in frustration, he said to Jesus, “Lord this is too hard. It takes too much time. It is annoying me. I have no calculator or computer. I cannot keep up with all these sins!”

Jesus smiled and said, “Now you’re getting it Peter.”
