Is it Time to Empty the Bucket?

One of my favorite all time movies was the Bucket List with Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson. The film was released on Christmas Day in 2007 and if you missed it, I highly recommend it. You can watch a trailer on Yahoo by clicking here.

The bucket list is simply those things you want to accomplish before you “kick the bucket.”

Lately, I’m convinced that it may be time to trim the list a bit. Perhaps visiting the Taj Mahal isn’t so important after all. Actually my bucket list was never extensive anyway.

I’ve been searching the Web and I’ve uncovered some interesting statistics. Folks are not shortening their bucket lists – but they are shortening the time to achieve those things. This may very well be the decade to deliver dreams. People are discovering that Thomas Jefferson gave us a wealth of knowledge in a simple sentence, “Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today.”

Most people are not waiting for the death sentence to do those things they want to do before they expire. In fact, even in these tough economic times, most folks are reaching towards their dreams and investing in them.

While home sales may be off the mark dramatically, sales of vacation spots are actually on the rise. Rentals and seasonal cabin sales have increased exponentially. Vacations are booming even though salaries and unemployment is skyrocketing. It appears that waiting to kick the bucket or even approaching the end of life isn’t the time to put off doing those things you want to do.

Edward Cole portrayed by Jack Nicholson says a memorable line in the movie, “We live, we die, and the wheels on the bus go round and round.”

It may be the perfect time to empty the bucket.
