Hurricane Larry

The computer is still leaking water. It’s been 7 hours, and each time I pick it up. There’s still a puddle underneath, just a little smaller each time. I keep tilting it, shaking it….. water is still leaking out. For the insurance to cover it, it would have to be some type of burglary or natural disaster.

I don’t know what I was thinking. All of my work was on this computer, documents, photos. What was I thinking? It was the storm that was going on in my life. Hurricane Larry. Now, for all practical purposes, Larry is a man. A man that I met on the internet. My cousins were all “give internet dating a try”, “you won’t be disappointed”. And to my surprise, I wasn’t disappointed.

It was just after Christmas when we met and it seemed that God had given a special gift to me. Larry and I chatted all day, everyday. At work, in between work. He was somewhat educated, somewhat cultured, but still rough on the edges. He was a protector. Just the kind of man I needed. I was in love.

We had settled into a little routine almost. He’d call when he was on his way home. Then, he would get on the computer and send loving e-mails. He bought an avalanche of love into my life, but, just as quickly, he bought a hurricane. Windy, wet, torrential tears. Hurricane Larry. Sex so great. Cuddling after. Both of us were Christians, but even though we slipped, he wouldn’t stay the night because he just felt it was best until we were married.

Today, I knew the truth. When he sent the text. The text said through the years, he just loved me more. But we have only been dating for months. The text ended in “my lovely wife”. In his haste, he sent a text to me that was meant for his wife whose name appeared to be Carmen. I was confused at first. Then, I was in denial. Then, I was in misery.

Then, I was so angry, that I did the unthinkable. I walked into the kitchen and turned on the faucet. I took the stainless steel stopper and stopped up the sink. I watched my chest labor up and down as the sink filled with hot water. The water was so hot that steam was rising off the top. I took the computer and submerged it in the water. My hands were burning in the water, but the hot water actually helped to cool my anger. Hurricane Larry had passed.
