How to Use DVD Shrink

Once you have found DVD Shrink on the net or have a well connected friend and have installed the program we now need to set up a few things, that way you can begin to copy DVD’s.

This is how mine is set up, and will give you a guide on how to burn your DVDs. Please keep in mind DVD Shrink doesn’t burn all DVD’s as some protection prohibits you to have the ability to burn and backup your own DVDs.

Click on Edit and Preferences tab. If you are going to be burning on a 4.7 DVD make sure you have that selected. Do not tick, “Hide audio and sub-picture streams of insignificant size.” Tick “Automatically open VIDEO_TS subfolders.” And “Run analysis and backup in low priority mode to improve multi-tasking.”

Click on the Preview tab and uncheck “Enable video and audio preview”.

Click on Output Files tab. Tick “Remove Macrovision Protection”, “Remove P-UOPS (Prohibited User Operations)”, “Remove layer break”, “Split VOB files into 1gb size chunks (recommended)”. Leave “Logical remapping of enabled streams” unchecked.

Click on Stream Selections tab. I have mine set to English as I don’t need to waste space on languages I don’t know or wish to watch or read my films in.

Click on the File I/O tab. Only check “Check RPCS drive region code when opening a DVD. And if you have Nero tick under burn settings “Enable burning with Nero” Then press “OK”.

Make sure the “Full Disc” button is pressed on the main menu at the top.

Insert your DVD; make sure it’s clean though before you place it in your DVD/CD drive. Click on the “Open DVD” button on the top menu. It will then list the name of the DVD you just placed in your DVD drive. Click “OK”.

It will then go through analyzing the DVD which should take no longer then 3 minutes. It must do this in order to be able to burn the DVD so don’t press cancel.
After that has completed you will then see a list to the left that is the name of the DVD Menus, Main Movie, Extras, and sometimes Unreferenced Material. Be sure to tick each and every one of those folders to remove anything you don’t wish to have on your DVD’s. Though you can tick on the name of the DVD and see the folders to the right, sometimes even though you may uncheck languages you don’t wish, they may still appear. This is why I stress to check each folder.

To the right, I find it best to leave it on automatic and uncheck anything I don’t wish to have.

After you have selected everything you wish, click on the “Backup!” button on the top menu.

In the popup window you will see the following tabs Target Device, DVD Region, Quality Settings, Options, and Burn Settings.

Under the first menu, Select backup target, I pick ISO Image File. And select a place on the hard drive for the file.

DVD Region, select Region Free.

Under Quality Settings, I find no difference at all expect when a DVD is scratched do I tick “perform deep analysis before backup to improve quality” You can also tick “Compress video with high quality adaptive error compensation” to Sharp default.

Under Options select “Run backup in low priority mode” this will allow you to do other things at the same time. And if you wish you can have it play a sound when it completes.

Burn settings is volume label. You can change it to anything you wish.

Click ok, and you are ready to begin copying DVD’s.

It will first analyze the DVD and then it will encode it to where ever you wish to have it saved to. This could take up to 2 hours to do, all depending on the speed of your DVD drive, hard drive, and RAM.

After DVD Shrink has completed you then can use Nero to burn the DVD.

DVD Shrink is only used for creating backup copies of the DVD not for burning the DVD. It can be confusing as many refer to DVD Shrink as copying DVD software and many think that solely using DVD Shrink will create the copy of the DVD they desire. Sorry to inform you this is not the case.
