Freehold, NJ: Power Outage Update

Here is an update on the power outage in Freehold, NJ caused by Hurricane Irene.

Current Number of Outages

As of Aug 30, 2011 5:05 PM, 6,976 Freehold residents are still without power. The number of outages has been slowly decreasing. FirstEnergy Corp. updates this information every 15 minutes. Freehold has the most power outages of all towns in Monmouth County.

Jersey Central Power & Light Statement (JCP&L)

On Aug 29, 2011 5:43 PM, JCP&L (a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.) issued the following power restoration statement:

“JCP&L is continuing to experience power outages due to the effects of Hurricane Irene. Crews are working around the clock to restore power to all the affected areas. We anticipate that the majority of our Customers will be restored by the weekend with full restoration by early next week. Please treat all downed wires and damaged electrical equipment as live and dangerous. If you have not already reported your electric service as being out, please call 1-888-544-4877. At the peak, 670,000 customers were affected, with 320,000 restored at this time.”

Many Freehold residents have not had power since Saturday night. According to the statement above, it could be another week before JCP&L fully restores power.

JCP&L Water and Ice Program

Freehold residents who are still without power can go to Acme Supermarket (3241 Route 9, Freehold) and Norkus Foodtown (597 Park Avenue, Freehold) to receive free ice and water. Customers should go to the courtesy counter and say that they are a JCP&L customer out of power. See the web site for a full list of participating supermarkets.
