Five of the Best Songs by Grammy Winner Bon Iver

At the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, folk artist Bon Iver had the distinct privilege of receiving the Best New Artist award. While many are not familiar with Bon Iver’s work, I have been a fan for quite some time. Here is a look at five of Bon Iver’s best songs yet, and why the future is bright for this unique musical act.

“Roslyn”

“Roslyn” is the song that first turned me on to Bon Iver. The song is beautiful and haunting. There is something distinctly eerie about this song, but yet I can’t stop listening to it. This song gained attention after being featured in the second “Twilight” movie, “New Moon.” Bon Iver infused folk with soul to create an amazing sound and a memorable song.

“Flume”

Another song by Bon Iver that captures the soul and refuses to let go is “Flume.” With a calming melody, a somewhat melancholy vibe and a beautiful harmony, Bon Iver does not disappoint. This song is easily listened to, and I was hooked immediately.

“Skinny Love”

“Skinny Love” is a beautiful and highly enjoyable song by Bon Iver that had me singing along after the first listen. Bon Iver’s voice simmers in this song and as the intensity of the harmony picks up, the song grabs hold of its listener and never let’s go.

“Calgary”

A song that brings Bon Iver to a new level is “Calgary.” The song is multi-dimensional, with varying moods and tempos. “Calgary” is a gorgeous song that takes Bon Iver into territory where he has never gone before. In parts, the song has an electric feel while others, his folk roots are apparent.

“Blindsided”

Another song that displays Bon Iver’s talent at its finest is “Blindsided.” This song shows Bon Iver’s softer side and how talented he is with crafting a gorgeous melody. The poetic lyrics of “Blindsided” help add to the mystique of this song.

If the first time you ever heard of Bon Iver was at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, be forewarned: you have just been introduced to an amazing musical talent.
