Fines in the NFL Are Plain Stupid

The National Football League has tons of fan and most of them enjoy watching great games. Big offensive plays and big hits on defense are what most of us want to see. Even if it is going to bring a big fine to the player for hitting people in the wrong place.

So this season we have seen many hits on Quarterbacks and even more hits on Wide Receivers. However, these aren’t the only things that people have been fined for. Troy Polamalu was even fined for using the phone on the side line or A.J. Hawk giving the middle finger to fans in a game. My biggest issue is that both of these fines were for 10,000. How do you determine how much these two players should be fined? What is worse in the world a player on the phone or a player flicking fans off on T.V. were kids could be watching.

Now more into the reason the fines are just stupid. The reason I feel they are stupid is because there is no set fine list. You get fined whatever the NFL feels like handing out that day. When you see a few people get fined in the same day for the same hits and one gets 10k and another gets 15k or the next week it is 20k to another player. It is hurting the NFL because some players are going to start thinking they are being picked on and may go out and hit another player very hard and could hurt them badly.

If that isn’t bad enough for you how about : Getting fined for a hit but not being penalized or being penalized and not being fined. This is a big thing that is starting to get to players. I think most players will take the blame for big hits and pay fines but they would like the referees and the league to be on the same page.

So in closing, It is just stupid for the NFL to fail in such a small area. There are many other things to worry about in the game but they have let this become an issue for everyone. Once they create a system for fines, things will change in the NFL for the good and might not make them look so stupid.
