Fallen Star

You could have heard a pin drop
When he walked out on the stage.
He used to be a country star,
His songs were all a rage.

The people in the audience
Didn’t recognize his name.
They were all in diapers
When he enjoyed his fame.

He swung his guitar off his back
And started in to sing.
The waver in his aging voice
Covered up that well-known ring.

He finished with his song,
And no one offered up applause.
He knew his time had faded,
His plight, a worthless cause.

He thought he’d make a comeback,
But they showed him he would fail.
His guitar hangs there on the wall,
As if to tell his tale.

The star is gone and that guitar
Still hangs there on the wall.
If it could talk, it’d tell you,
Tales no one will recall.
