Easy Street? There’s Hope at the Corner of Wall Street

We’ve always looked to Wall Street to determine the ‘prosperity status’ of the world. The stock market goes up and down, and it seems in the past few years, things ain’t looking too good. To be honest with you, those weird numbers bouncing around all over the place makes my head swim. It doesn’t really mean a ‘hill of beans’ to me.

But, to investors and to the economy, those numbers mean everything.

What are we really looking for? I know we want the economy to get better. We want jobs and a better way of life. We don’t want to struggle to make ends meet or worry about where the next paycheck’s coming from. For many of us, we want the life we had on Easy Street before the economy bottomed out. Those were some great times that would be nice to have again. Wouldn’t it?

As we keep our eyes on Wall Street (hoping to see some upward changes), I guess we’ll just adjust our lives, pinch pennies, and try to make things work and hope the economy gets better. And if it does, we just might be able to live again. Right?

But, since we are waiting for the bouncing numbers in the stock market to stay up, what are our other options? What about God? Have you considered God into your financial daily planner? Here are some scriptures I found today that offer hope.

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. – Matthew 6:24

Mammon is money and material things. You know, the stuff we have been working so hard to get. Would we honestly choose mammon over God to serve? I believe many folks have. And now that ‘mammon’ is out of the way, we can now focus on Him.

Jesus tells us, I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” (John 10:9,10)

God offers life – abundant life. We’ve learned that money doesn’t last forever. That abundant future that we have been saving and planning for has already been spent. What now? Maybe we should look to Jesus and see what He offers.

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4: 19

According to this verse, it sounds like God will provide all of our needs, too. All of our needs? That’s good to know considering many of us are unemployed and worried about how we are going to survive. And now that we’re out of options, we see there’s hope in Jesus.

Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. – Matthew 6:31-33

Food, drink, and clothes? God says don’t worry about it. He will supply that, too. All we have to do is seek Him first. It doesn’t get any ‘simpler’ than that folks!

God has a path for us on Easy Street… He’s our hope to survive in this economy. Forget Wall Street, let’s set our GPS to Jesus… God’s Perfect Son! If you don’t know Him as your Lord and Savior, He’s only a prayer away.
