Burger King Spicy Chick’N Crisp Sandwich VS Walgreens Cafe W Chicken Sandwich

On a regular basis, I like to eat the Burger King Spicy Chick’N Crisp sandwich from their value menu and the frozen Walgreens Cafe W Chicken Sandwich. With a Walgreens Pharmacy located three blocks to the west of my apartment building and a Burger King restaurant situated two blocks to the east, there are plenty of opportunities for me to eat each of these sandwiches.

A couple of days ago, it dawned on me that this Burger King Value Meal chicken sandwich and the Walgreens chicken sandwich are very similar in several ways. Presented here, as a service to the consumer at large, is an article which reviews and compares the Burger King Spicy Chick’N Crisp sandwich and the Walgreens Cafe W Chicken Sandwich.

The Burger King Spicy Chick’N Crisp sandwich is a good-sized chicken sandwich, especially for one dollar. It measures roughly 3.5 inches across and is approximately two inches high. Sometimes, the sandwich is taller, depending on the amount of lettuce that is topping it.

The Walgreens Cafe W Chicken Sandwich is also a good-sized chicken sandwich. The net weight of the sandwich is 4.90 ounces (139 grams). In physical size, the sandwich measures roughly 2.25″ x 3.75″.

The regular retail price charged for one Cafe W Chicken Sandwich at Hartford, Connecticut area Walgreens Pharmacies is around $1.29. These frozen sandwiches are also often on sale for about $0.99c each.

In my humble opinion, the prices of both of these chicken sandwiches are very reasonable. You can’t beat $1 or $1.29 for a tasty, well-portioned chicken sandwich.

Texture / Consistency
While these chicken sandwiches are very similar, their textures differ somewhat. The Burger King Spicy Chick’N Crisp sandwich features a tender crispy chicken patty, topped with lettuce and mayonnaise on a sesame seed bun.
An overall pleasing texture that is accentuated by shaved lettuce is offered, but they never seem to put
enough mayonnaise on the sandwich.

The Walgreens Cafe W Chicken Sandwich also features a pleasing texture. The chicken patty is a little larger, breaded just right and is nice and tender without being mushy, mealy or soggy. For a frozen roll, the sesame seed bun offers a surprisingly fresh texture when heated according to instructions.

Taste / Flavor
When it comes to flavor, both the Burger King Spicy Chick’N Crisp sandwich and the Walgreens Cafe W Chicken Sandwich have plenty to offer.

To my tastebuds, each of these sandwiches is excellent in its own right. The Burger King sandwich is not at all greasy and the chicken is accented well by the lettuce. Befitting the spicy part of its name, this mildly spiced sandwich provides a little bit of spicy heat, but it is very mild and short-lasting. Some more mayonnaise would be a positive addition, though.

The frozen Walgreens Cafe W Chicken Sandwich is a basic, yet very tasty breaded chicken patty sandwich. It is made of real chicken breast with rib meat and to me it tastes just as good, if not better than many fast food restaurant-style chicken sandwiches. The sesame seed bun that holds the sandwich tastes comparable to the Burger King sesame seed bun.

One of the positive notes regarding the Walgreens sandwich is the fact that you can top it with any type of condiment you like. Although I usually top this sandwich with mayonnaise, I also sometimes top it with barbecue sauce, General Tsao’s sauce, tomato sauce, cheese and even pepper relish. The sandwich also tastes good plain.

On a flavor scale of one through ten, I would assign the Burger King Spicy Chick’N Crisp sandwich a rating of 9.5 and the frozen Walgreens Cafe W Chicken Sandwich a rating of nine.

The frozen Walgreens Cafe W Chicken Sandwich is packaged in a sturdy cardboard box. The largely black front label features an illustration of the enclosed sandwich and the rear label lists all pertinent ingredient and nutritional information. Inside the box, the sandwich is further packaged in a sealed plastic wrapper that is easy to open.

If you’re a fan of tasty breaded chicken sandwiches, you can’t go wrong with either of these versions. In today’s troubled economy, to be able to purchase high quality and flavorful chicken sandwiches for approximately $1 each is a wonderful thing.

The Burger King Spicy Chick’N Crisp sandwich and the Walgreens Cafe W Chicken Sandwich are both highly recommended.
