BMW Introduces the Facelift for the X6

The BMW X6 was launched in 2008 as a less practical, but more powerful and extravagant, version of the BMW X5. While car enthusiasts were a little skeptical about the car’s future success, the X6 quickly became a huge hit for BMW, with the German carmaker selling more than 150,000 units. And because there are almost four years since the car was introduced, while we wait for the new generation, BMW officially unveiled the facelift for the X6.

The facelift is quite subtle, but to be honest, the X6 looked great anyways and didn’t need and major changes. The most notable feature of the facelifted model are the headlamps, where the Xenon headlights can be replaced by a more advanced set of adaptive LED lights, looking a lot more high-tech than the ones on the ongoing model. The turning signals also feature LED technology, and on the upper part of the headlamps we can see a subtle “eye lid” with a strong aesthetic effect.

The front bumper is almost unchanged, except for the lateral air openings, which feature several ornaments distinguishing it from the current version, plus the fog lights being moved towards the side. The tail lamps are almost unchanged, but also feature LED lights, while the exhaust system’s tailpipes give up on the round shape for a square one.

On the interior, the BMW X6 facelift doesn’t feature any impressive new features, except for new color combinations, leather upholstery and leather inserts, which increase the sporty feeling inside the car. New exterior colors are also available, plus new designs for the wheels, which will be available in sizes up to 19-inch.

Under the bonnet, customer will be able to choose the same versions: the X6 xDrive35i (3.0-liter turbocharged six cylinder in-line engine delivering 300 hp) and the X6 xDrive50i (4.4-liter turbocharged V8 producing 400 hp), both being available with an eight speed automatic transmission. Equipped with the M Performance Package option, the two versions are upgraded by 15 and 40 hp, 20-inch wheels, optimized suspension settings and several exterior and interior ornaments. There are also two diesels available, the X6 xDrive30d (245 hp) and the X6 xDrive40d (306 hp), powered by the same 3.0-liter common rail diesel with different power outputs. The top of the line version remains the BMW X6 M, powered by the 555 hp V8 with a six speed M-Sport automatic transmission.

The new BMW X6 facelift will make world debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March 2012, with prices scheduled to be released closer to launch date.
