‘America’s Got Talent’ Finale Picks Another Vocalist, Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr

In all six seasons NBC’s highly popular summer talent show “America’s Got Talent” chose yet another vocalist as the winner Wednesday night, September, 14. The winning talent was certainly deserving as he got better and better every week during his performances. It would have been nice to see one of the dance troupes win instead. My money was on either Team iLuminate or Silhouettes.

To give you an idea of the past winners there was Bianca Ryan – 11-year old vocalist, Terry Fator – a ventriloquist who did a great deal of singing in his act, Neal E. Boyd – opera singer, Kevin Skinner – vocalist, Michael Grimm – vocalist and now Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. who pays tribute singing songs by the Rat Pack.

The two-hour finale featured the finalists paired with their idols. Landau started off singing an excellent duet with Patti LaBelle. Team iLuminate danced along to Cobra Starship while the most moving performance of the night was LeAnn Rimes with the Silhouettes. PopLyfe teamed up with Stevie Wonder during the second half of the show. There was an embarrassing moment with the All-Star Auditions, the rejected talent who never made it to Vegas, but left an impression on the viewers.

The South Asian couple started off their duet while the husband kept requesting to start over, but was ignored by the band. Thankfully the wife was able to recover and get her husband in synch. One of the silliest video packages was about the judges, especially Piers and Howie. They both need to literally grow up. Last season’s runner-up, Jackie Evancho, performed an aria before the winner was announced at the end of the show.
