2011 Halloween Camping Weekends in Indiana

One of our family’s favorite yearly Halloween activities is attending a Halloween themed camping weekend at one of the local campgrounds. A blast for kids, it will give them a chance to participate in many Halloween activities that typically include pumpkin decorating, campsite decorating contests, and trick or treating around the campground. As the popularity of these Halloween camping weekends have grown, more and more campgrounds are offering them. Here are just a few of the best Halloween camping weekends being offered in Indiana this year.

Lake Rudolph

Located in Santa Claus, Indiana Lake Rudolph is the official campground of Holiday World. The campground has been offering Halloween themed weekends for several years now, and actually starts the fun in the middle of September offering seven consecutive weekends of Halloween themed fun.

Visitors to the Lake Rudolph Halloween weekends will enjoy participating in a campsite decorating contest, trick or treating throughout the campground, Bonfire ghost stories, a haunted hayride, Bingo, spooky movies, and structured activities for all kids in the family, including the teenagers.

Raccoon State Recreation Area

On October 28th and 29th the Raccoon State Recreation Area in Rockville, Indiana will offer a Halloween themed camping weekend for campground visitors.

The weekend will include activities such as a movie under the stars, a pumpkin carving contest, Halloween crafts, a costume contest, Trick or Treating in the campground, a campsite decorating contest, and a hayride.

Spring Mill State Park

Spring Mill State Park in Mitchell, Indiana offers a Halloween themed camping weekend on October 8th and 9th with their Scarecrow Weekend. The weekend is full of fun Halloween themed activities, which include a campsite decorating contest, a costume parade, and trick or treating through the campground.

A main draw to the Scarecrow Weekend at Spring Mill State Park is The Haunted Village, where the park turns their authentic Pioneer Village into a frightening Haunted Village for visitors. The Haunted Village is not recommended for children under the age of eight.

Jellystone Park at Lake Monroe

Located in Bloomington, Indiana the Jellystone Park at Lake Monroe offers a Halloween themed camping weekend October 28th to 30th.

Visitors to the campground will enjoy participating in trick or treating, pumpkin painting, a campsite decorating contest, a haunted trail, and scary ghost movies.
