What is a Eunuch? I was reading an online article that claimed that a Eunuch is a gay man. It claimed that that Jesus said some men were born gay. Problem is that claiming a Eunuch is what we in today’s American Society call gay (aka homosexual) is a flat out lie. A Eunuch is not a gay man.
The scripture talks about Eunuchs. According to Acts 8:38
Phillip was sent to the Ethiopian Eunuch. Rom. 1:27-28 describes lesbians and homosexuals. The passage starts in vs. 18 and goes through Rom. 2:6. a lot of the passage in Rom. chapter 1 describes earth worshipers, people who worship and serve the created (1:25) rather than the creator. Rom. 1:25 also mentions that they changed the truth of God into a lie.
Matt. 19:12 says “For there are some Eunuchs which were so born from their mother’s womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.” Matt. 19:12
The context of Matt. 19:12 is Matt. 19:1-12 and verse 12 is a response to the disciples response to Jesus reply to the Pharisees who asked a tempting question about marriage. Verse 4 makes it clear that God made them male and female. Vs. 5 states that a man is to cleave unto his wife.
In Isaiah 56:3-6 God makes a promise to eunuchs that keep his sabbaths and take hold of His covenat that He will give them a name better than of sons and daughters. In Jer. 34;17-22 Eunuchs are among those that God promises to give over to their enemies for transgressing His covenant. In Daniel 1:3 someone named Ashpenaz is the master of the eunuchs. Whether Ashpenaz was a eunuch or not the scripture (in this passage) does not say. Here king Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon ordered the master of eunuchs to bring some of the children of Israel to him. Daniel and some of his friends were among them.
On page 34 in the concordance in the back of the Bible I usually use, published in 1976 by Thomas Nelson Publishers eunuch is defined as a “male attendant”. I sort of disagree with this definition, because of the context of Matt. 19 and Isaiah 56. A eunuch (according to the passage in Matt. 19) is someone is unmarried. Since Isaiah 56 promises eunuchs who keep God’s covenant a name better than sons and daughters that would also mean that he does not have children.
According to blueletterbile.org the word Eunuch has the following meaning:
a bed keeper, bed guard, superintendent of the bedchamber, chamberlain
a) in the palace of oriental monarchs who support numerous wives the superintendent of the women,s apartment or harem, an office held by eunuchs
b) an emasculated man, a eunuch
1) eunuchs in oriental courts held by other offices of greater, held by the Ethiopian eunuch mentioned in Acts 8:27-39.
one naturally incapacitated
1) for marriage
2) begetting children
one who voluntarily abstains from marriage.
Clearly you can see that the Greek word for Eunuch does not mean a gay man, as modern homosexuals would describe gay. It is not true that a eunuch is a homosexual man, and those who claim that the scripture teaches that are plain flat out lying. Homosexuality is sin and Lying is sin. Yes, liars and homosexuals can be saved, but they need to repent of their sins. The best way I’ve ever heard this put is by a pastor named Rob Koke of Shoreline Christian Center in Austin, Texas. If I heard him right he said it this way, “God will accept you as you are, but He loves you to much to leave you there”. I have since heard other preachers make the same or similar statements and it is accurate.
