Things to Do in W. Va.: Winter Activities Like Snow Tubing at Outdoor Fun Places

No matter what age you are, you can travel to one of these snow tubing destinations to enjoy some outdoor fun while spending time with the family. Snow tubing isn’t the only thing to do in West Virginia, though. Many of these places have numerous winter activities planned throughout the cold season. If you’d prefer to spend an entire weekend or even a whole week, book a room and get tubing.

Winterplace. Located at 100 Old Flat Top Mountain Road in Ghent, W. Va., Winterplace has many winter activities for kids and adults all through the season. Of course, snow tubing is at the top of the list for many travelers. It is fun, easy and you don’t have to know how to ski to join in the outdoor fun. Monday through Friday prices begin at $28 for four hours on the hills and $36 for an eight-hour day. Weekend prices run from $28 to $40. If you plan on staying for a weeklong getaway, think about hitting the slopes with some great skiing or take a skiing or snowboarding lesson. Coca-Cola Tubing Park. Opening in December, Snowshoe Mountain’s Coca-Cola Tubing Park will fill with snow tubing enthusiasts from all over the area and out-of-state visitors. Pull on your snow suit, some snow boots and some winter gloves, then head to Snowshoe Mountain at 10 Snowshoe Drive in Snowshoe, W. Va. The mountain has more winter activities than just snow tubing, though. Among some of the outdoor fun scheduled for the cold season includes snowmobile tours, equestrian adventures, snowcat tours, snow making seminars, Green Zebra Tours and much more. Canaan Valley Snow Tubing. As the season opens for winter activities, Canaan Valley brings out the snow tubing lanes in full force. Children must be 4 years old to ride and be taller than 42″. Canaan Valley does not allow double riders on the tubes for safety reasons. Make reservations to stay at the resort and take in all the outdoor fun it has to offer, including skiing, ice skating, snow tubing, snowshoeing, air boarding and much more. Snow tubing rates are for two-hour runs, and prices are $15 during the weekdays and $20 per person on the weekends and holidays. Military discounts are available. Whitetail Snow Tubing. Located 13805 Blairs Valley Road in Mercersburg, Pa., less than an hour drive from Martinsburg, W. Va., Whitetail Resort offers one- and two-hour snow tubing rates starting at $18. Whitetail also has a special kiddie rate for children 2 to 4 years old that includes all day tubing for just $8. Snow tubing at the resort will be open beginning mid-December. The resort offers several different dining options that include the Marketplace, Almost Heaven Bakery, Starbucks and the ever popular Windows Restaurant for those who want to eat on the slopes and don’t want to waste valuable outdoor fun time.
