The Reason for the Season: A Christmas Poem

Christmas time, is here once more

A time for caroling and a time for snow

With lights and presents adorning the tree

A kiss under mistletoe and making merry

It’s a season of giving and season of cheer

A time even the Scrooge and the Grinchiest endear

What is this magic that lights Christmas flame?

What is it that melts even the coldest frame?

Two-thousand years ago a baby was born

In cave and manger, what humble abode

Angels declared, “Savior is born today!”

Laying softly in swaddling cloth arrayed

Eternal majesty in suckling babe

Destined to bear our sin and our shame

Good tidings to all on Christmas Day

Salvation to the world in Jesus proclaimed

There is a reason for this season, holy and bright

The Messiah Jesus has been born this night
