Tea Party Movement Drops in Popularity

On December 16, 1773 many colonists protests a tea tax, as well as taxes on other things, by throwing tea off a ship in the Boston Harbor. This act of bravery eventually lead to the Revolutionary War, which is what allowed us to call ourselves, the United States of America and be “free”. In 2007, in honor of the Boston Tea Party, the Tea Party Movement was established. This movement stands for the some of the same things that the colonists in 1773 stood for. But on November 9, 2011, the Pew Research Center took a survey, and unfortunately, more Americans now disagree with the Tea Party movement and what it stands for. This information concerns for me for many reasons.

I can see how the Tea Party Movement may have lost some steam due to the Occupy Movement that is still going on, but I don’t understand how people can disagree with it. This act stands for lower taxes, a federal spending limit, a balanced federal budget, and much more. Why would any one disagree with some things that was founded in honor of some thing that lead to our freedom. Not supporting this movement is like not supporting your freedom of speech. My stance on this movement is now stronger than ever, because of the recent asks of the Republican Party, which is not doing any thing for the benefit of our country. Instead, they are doing everything to benefit themselves. I voted for President Obama, in hopes that he and the Republican Party would do what past presidents couldn’t, which is make this free country, feel free again. Regrettably, this was not the case, and it seems as if it was never intended to ever happen.

Unfortunately, once something goes down in reputation, it is very hard to get that high reputation back. With the republican party in office, I do not foresee this movement gaining steam any time soon. It will more than likely, take a miracle in order to get this country to support this very important movement, and get this country back on track.
